Teddy Roosevelt: "Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick"

"We are a new people.  We are Americans.  The worst thing any man can do is to discriminate against fellow Americans because of race, speech, or religion."

Theodore Roosevelt (26th President of the United States of America).

Recently, we watched a DVD from our local library concerning the life and times of Teddy Roosevelt.
It was enlightening in the following ways:

1.  Created the National Park/Forest system in US.
2.  Nobel Peace Prize winner
3.  Pushed for the Panama Canal to be built
4.  First President (while in office) to travel outside the US.
5.  First President to fly in an airplane.
6.  First President to go down in a submarine
7.  A Republican that did not fit into either the Republican nor Democratic parties.  And in fact ran for a third term as a "progressive", years after his first 2 terms.  During that 3rd run for president, he was shot and finished his speech with the bullet still in his body.  WOW.
8.  You will find more if you watch the DVD.

Selected Quotes:

"I stand for fair play and I stand for a square deal.  Ours is a government of liberty.  No man is above it.  No man is below it.  We must treat each man on his worth and merits as a man.  Each is entitled to no more and should receive no less."

"The Government ought not to conduct the business of this country, but it ought to regulate it so that it shall be conducted in the interests of the public."
