We are discussing making Alberta our home base instead of ontario. We are retired and live in a fifth wheel. Any advice
If you are from anywhere in southern Ontario, remember that Alberta is not "Western Canada", but "NORTHwestern Canada". Consider that if Ottawa was in line with Alberta, it would be about 400 km south of the Alberta - U.S. Border. So if you are going to live in your RV, you need to be prepared for the climate. There are a lot of retirees living in Lethbridge. However, 75% of Albertans live in the Calgary - Edmonton corridor. We have lived in both big city Alberta (Calgary and Edmonton) AND small town Alberta (Most recently in Hanna). The cities are busy and expensive, unless you are able to fully purchase and "older adult type" condo. However the Red Deer area might also be intriguing as you are right in between both big cities (though we haven't lived there, but we almost did). Also remember that Alberta has always had one of the youngest populations in Canada, so our focus isn't always the older people (so being close to the big cities might be better for healthcare etc.). And if you are used to a whole wide range of government services (as in Ontario), they may not all exist here (which a lot of Albertans generally think of as good). Hopefully this helps.
