Canadian Democracy - Did you know ...

"Currently, only registered political parties and their riding associations [[NOT independent Candidates]] can raise funds between elections; since the government voted down my proposals to level the playing field, that field remains unlevel."

"Mr. Speaker, today is the tax filing deadline for millions of Canadians.  However, as the Income Tax Act is 3206 pages long most taxpayers will file without any regard to the complexities of the tax code."

But what about the common saying:

Ignorantia juris non excusat or ignorantia legis neminem excusat (Latin for "ignorance of the law does not excuse" or "ignorance of the law excuses no one") is a legal principle holding that a person who is unaware of a law may not escape liability for violating that law merely because he or she was unaware of its content.   see wikipedia

How can we possibly know all the regulations in the tax code?
ANSWER:  Hire a team of tax lawyers (if your last name is Weston, Thompson, Bronfman, Shaw, Irving)

Why would the federal government not want "independent" MPs not to succeed in Parliament?
ANSWER:  Maybe it has something to do with who the tax laws are really written for (sorry, dangling preposition - for all you grammarians out there).

Something to think about anyway.

Thank you,
