Do you remember hearing about the guy who got buried after a trench collapsed beside an in-fill house?  Probably not.  But I do.  You see, I have worked in trenches, like many plumbers have.  This guy, though, was a labourer, maybe one of those temp workers (who knows they don't say)..  We have rules about entering a trench, especially one that is more than 5 feet deep.

They tried to save him, but they couldn't.

Next time someone tells you that it is ok to go into a trench without training, cut-backs, or shoring (in all trenches more than 5 feet deep) just say no.  If they insist, walk away, and if every employer insists (verbally of course), sell your stuff, pack your bags, and head for the hills.  It is not worth spending your life living along people who do not value your life.

If you are an employer, who allows this to happen, well, you should know better.  Please don't hire me. I don't want to be that guy, buried in the ground, leaving my wife a widow for no good reason.

Thank you,
