UPDATE:

***************

The Lubicon Band First Nation

settled a long-standing land claim with Alberta.
Or did they?

This book is not "specifically" related,
but is a good general read on Aboriginal Cultures in Alberta.
I have this on my bookshelf.

Back in 1988,
this is how Don Braid
 (columnist from the Calgary Herald)
described it in the Toronto Star:

"Suddenly, along comes a band that demands a settlement,
declares its territory sovereign, sets up a roadblock,
and has 27 of its members and supporters dragged off to jail.
 Two days later,
the premier flies in on a Saturday,
 negotiates for a few hours,
 and offers the natives
nearly everything they wanted.
Seen in this light, Getty's action is so radical
that Ottawa may yet be tempted
to throw cold water on the deal."

So what's happening now?

On March 20, 2015
Alberta Premier Jim Prentice issues this statement:

It looks like this is
a "federal responsibility" after all.

The federal government's response is this:

So no solid deal yet,
30 years later.
