Big Business ⛔ BLOCKS Beach ⛔ Parking

I just found out that I have to start paying to park at my favorite beach at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver.  And that isn’t the problem.

“Digital-only” payment is the problem.

And because of this --- 👫my wife and I ðŸ‘« --- have decided to explore other beaches with freer access for all.

West Vancouver politicians - and bureaucrats - contracted its parking enforcement to Impark ---- a private company.  And that private company only accepts payment by phone app OR a machine that only accepts “tap to pay” debit or credit cards.

Do you see the problem yet?

If you are like the vast majority of people who are constantly looking at their so-called “smart phones,” then you probably don’t.

So why is this “parking payment plan” NOT “smart” at all?

#1.  The public beach and the public park are owned by the “Crown” which is really the government that YOU, the “public” elect.  Depending on the beach, they are owned by either the federal or provincial government.  West Vancouver is NOT a government, but has been granted its “existence” by the British Columbia Provincial Government.  It “calls” itself a “government” because it has elected representatives, but its ultimate authority is ONLY the Provincial government.  At the end of the day, the provincial government decides whether West Vancouver exists.

#2.  “Digital payment” is NOT a “public” form of payment.   It requires you to enter into a “private” contract with a bank, which is NOT “public.”

#3.  Contrary to popular belief, a bank does NOT “have to” do business with you.  They do NOT “have to” issue you a credit card, a bank card, or even open a bank account for you.  Being a “private business,” they have the right to decline to do business with people.  Just as you have the right to decline any economic transaction.  If you don’t believe me, READ this  >>>  OFFICIAL Website:  "Refusal to deal" --- Competition Bureau of Canada --- Government of Canada

#4.  What this all means is that, to park on “public” land, you need the “approval” of a private business – a bank.  If it took “coins,” THEN we need only have to have the coins to park.  No "third party" would have a say in whether we could park on land that we have already paid for through our taxes.

And what's even more troubling is that the City of Vancouver - as of April 2026 - has STOPPED accepting coins as payment for street parking.   So this has broader implications THAN just a day-off at the beach.

#5.  But wait, YOU say, don’t most people have “smart phones” today?  First off, YOU said “most,” and “most” doesn’t cut it when it comes to public access.  In effect, the government would be discriminating against anyone who can’t come to an agreement with a “private” entity.   Maybe they don’t want to do business with you.  This has happened to some people.  They call it “de-banking.”  Or maybe YOU don’t like their contract terms (your fees, limits, liability, etc.), but they are big and they don’t want to negotiate any changes.  Or maybe YOU just like using cash - and coins - no matter what people tell you about using “digital” currencies.  Remember, the government “represents” ALL people, not just the ones they choose to represent.

#6.  There have been people who were unexpectedly “DENIED” access to their own money in their bank accounts and credit cards.   I am sure you might know someone who has “triggered” their bank into stopping all transactions until some “mistake” has been corrected.  And then there is this rather “inconvenient” fact about Canada’s banking system and your money.   In 2022 - the Canadian government chose to “freeze” the bank accounts of a couple hundred “Canadians” – without so much as a “court order.”

"In the 1 week during which the emergency measures were active, 280 financial accounts were frozen—including personal savings and chequing accounts, credit cards and lines of credit, with a total value of about $8 million."  ---  ARTICLE:  Policing Protest Through Financial Sanctions: Canada and the ‘Freedom Convoy’ - By Emily Gilbert

#7.  And where does this “digital-only” payment “plan” lead?  To a “Digital Dictatorship.”   Right now, there is an illusion of “choice.”  There are phone payment “apps,” and 5 major retail banks, and 2 major credit card companies.  What happens when our current Prime Minister Carney – who used to be Canada’s “Central Bank Governor” decides it is time to implement a “Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)?”  >>> YOU might say this is a conspiracy “theory” UNTIL you read on the government’s own website  >>> https://www.bankofcanada.ca/digitaldollar/
