Calgary Stampede Founder NOT in Canadian Encyclopedia

🤠 Guy Weadick ðŸ¤  --- best known as the founder of the Calgary Stampede --- still does NOT "rate" his very own "article" or "page" - in the Canadian Encyclopedia.

Here is a "search" on The Canadian Encyclopedia's website --- for "Guy Weadick"  >>> CLICK HERE >>> https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/search?InF1ZXJ5PWd1eSB3ZWFkaWNrJnR5cGU9YWxsJnBhZ2U9MSI=

In 2024 - the Calgary Stampede had a record-breaking attendance of 1,477,953  - after over 100 years in existence.  It could not have happened if Guy Weadick had given up on his dream.  The results of his work continue today and has impacted millions of people - myself included.

The Calgary Stampede is in Calgary - a city of 1.3 million people - which is in Alberta - a province of 4.3 million people - AND Alberta is still currently part of Canada.  More importantly, it is still Calgary's #1 event every year.  Guy Weadick ran the Stampede for 20 years after it started.  This is no "flash in the pan" man.  Did YOU click on the link above?  Did YOU see all of the other "Guys" that this encyclopedia has written about?  They all made contributions to Canada, but are their contributions any  more important than Guy Weadick's?  The reasons listed here prove that Guy Weadick deserves to be honoured with his very own "page" (article) in the Canadian Encyclopedia.

The Canadian Encyclopedia - which was started in Edmonton, Alberta - in the early 1980's - is funded today by Canadian taxpayers - many of whom live in Alberta.  In fact, Albertan taxpayers - through Peter Lougheed's government - completely funded the 1st edition of the Canadian Encyclopedia.  Mel Hurtig - the founding publisher - "... conceived the idea of creating a Canadian encyclopedia after becoming irritated at seeing libraries full of Americanized history books."  SOURCE: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/publisher-author-and-political-agitator-mel-hurtig-dies-at-84/article31268864/

By calling itself "The Canadian Encyclopedia" - and generally being accepted as a respected source of information - here in Canada - it has set itself up as one of the "gatekeepers" of  Canadian "culture."  It has become Canada's "Encyclopedia Britannica" if you will.  Therefore if a "major personality" - who has made a HUGE contribution to today's institutions - is omitted from that encyclopedia, their contributions to Canada become "de-valued" while other contributions increase in perceived value.

For an example of something "very obscure" that the Canadian Encyclopedia has published >>> click here >>> https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/arthur-buies >>> This "guy" was born 45 years before "Guy Weadick" and died 16 years after Mr. Weadick was born.  Mr. Arthur Buies claim to fame is a few writings about Quebec - "which are not well known" - according to his very own Canadian Encyclopedia "page."

This is simply slimy behaviour by "politically motivated" editors who now seem intent on AMPLIFYING "Central Canadian" culture over Albertan culture with Albertan tax payer money.

YOU may say Guy Weadick is dead and maybe this is just an oversight from the past.  BUT it is still happening to Albertans - living and breathing TODAY.  For example, current Albertan Premier Danielle Smith, still does not "rate" a page in the Canadian Encyclopedia.  And if you think that she hasn't been in long enough to get one, think again.  This so-called "encyclopedia" UPDATED her new political rival's "page" just 4 days after he won his leadership bid --- and Danielle Smith has yet to get a "page."  This PROVES beyond a shadow of a doubt that "The Canadian Encyclopedia" is using its taxpayer funded platform to promote a political agenda.  In their own words,  "The Encyclopedia belongs, in a sense, to all Canadians." --- If this was true, Calgary Stampede founder, Guy Weadick and Albertan Premier Danielle Smith would have their very own "pages" in it.
