Which Shirt Would You Buy?

😎 IMPORTANT:  Please read the detailed poll results

- by location - at the end of this blog post 😎  for the following question:

Does it matter to YOU where YOUR Canada flag merchandise (t-shirts, lawn chairs, flags, etc.) is MADE?

Yes

No

I Don't buy Canada Flag Merchandise

The other day, I needed a new shirt to replace an old and ripped, Hawaiian shirt.

So my wife / fashion consultant and I popped down to a busy local Calgary, Alberta, Canada thrift store.

And here's what we saw >>> A shirt "shouting" CANADA, but whispering "made in China" on the inside tag. (see the 1st photo below).

ROOTS CANADA makes the very BOLD claim that their shirt conforms to "The Canadian Standard - Quality & Integrity" right below a relatively large Canadian Flag symbol.

Let's examine this claim.

What is the "Canadian Standard?"

This seems to be answered by 2 words >>> Quality & Integrity.

Quality is the degree to which an object or entity (e.g., process, product, or service) satisfies a specified set of attributes or requirements.

Because this shirt does not refer to a "specific" standard which we can read, we have to conclude that this is an "empty" claim.

Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.

Koodos to ROOTS for being honest and not hiding the fact that their "CANADA" shirt was actually made in China.  However, you should know by now that China's government - or rather their totalitarian regime - does NOT exemplify strong moral principles.

For example, do YOU think it is moral to "to operate mobile “transformation” units, which subject members of “illegal” religious groups to severe psychological and physical torture intended to force them to “transform” by renouncing their religious beliefs."  (SOURCE:  https://freedomhouse.org/country/china/freedom-world/2023 )

Or is this moral?  >>> "Conditions in places of detention are harsh, with reports of inadequate food, regular beatings, and deprivation of medical care."  (SOURCE:  https://freedomhouse.org/country/china/freedom-world/2023 )

China has a score of 9 out of 100 from Freedom House, an organization which works to defend human rights and promote democratic change, with a focus on political rights and civil liberties.

If you still consider yourself "Canadian" ...
What are YOU doing ... buying stuff that puts your "true north, strong, and free" CANADA brand on something that was made in a totalitarian dictatorship?

And if YOU are a retailer or manufacturer and you are going to "wrap yourself" in the Canadian Flag, then at least have the decency to make that item in Canada.

For me the choice was clear, buy the shirt that was made in USA !

Which shirt would you choose?

The "shouting" CANADA - but "whispering" China - shirt

OR

The American-made shirt
